Not a happy customer!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have long been a McAfee customer, I tried to renew my subscription last night (with a month left on the actual subscription) because they have been popping up this thing telling me to accept the risk or renew now for over a month. After purchasing 2 years I realized that this is not my current product and called asking to cancel the order so I could just renew in a month when it actually expired. I was told something about me being grandfathered in and "since you've been a customer since 2007" then I was told that my current product (McAfee All Access) has been discontinued that this livesafe is replacing it. So fine I go to the website to download it imagine the first thing I see is McAfee All Access on sale for $44. I just paid $119 because this has been "discontinued"! Besides that, I am a long time customer, why didn't I get that price of $44? So now I've paid for a month of service I won't get, and have to uninstall and reinstall McAfee products on every family members device. I'll take my business elsewhere, I feel cheated, I WAS lied to and still McAfee can't or rather won't protect my intellectual property from the "data collecting" services running on my pc!

Improper charging and refusal of reimbursement

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

It seems like a scheme. I bought a computer for my daughter in December 2014 and we immediately purchased and installed McAfee antivirus.

One year later the service was cancelled by McAfee and a recurrent message would appear at the screen informing that the service was cancelled and asking for a renew but the renew of the service wasn´t interesting for us, thus we didn´t take any further action.

In 2015 we moved out of England. The fact is that they continued charging us every year after that the amount of £89.99. I returned to England this year and only then aknowledge the charges. For my surprise I was told by the bank that they couldn´t do anything about it and I should contact directly McAfee but they were fully aware of the "problem".

And so I did. McAfee confirmed the fact that the services were cancelled one year after the purchase but I didn´t "call" them to cancel the services, reason why they continued charging me.

They reimbursed me for the charges made in July 2018 (despite the fact that the first purchase was made in December 2014, no reason whatsoever for them to be charging me in July) but they refused to reimburse the previous charges made in 2016 and 2017 even though the services were no longer being provided. So, I strongly advise people to be aware of McAfee "type of procedures".

Another improper charge made to me by McCafee. £89.99 billed to my credit card entirely without my permission.

I had already purchased cheaper version from Currys to supply protection to. 2 appliances & was merely waiting for the start date- 29.1.2019 before installing this. I too am a pissed off customer & have received no redress from this company. E-mails & phone calls have so far failed to produce results.

Do you have any answers? 18/1/19

Many new computers come loaded with anti virus software pre-installed and with a "trial" period that ends within a certain length of time, after which you can either uninstall it or pay for further use of the program. You apparently gave them your cred/debit card when you either first used McAfee or after the trial ended.

Usually, when you continue use of the program and pay for a year more they have a blurb saying they will automatically renew your subscription until you cancel---which you did not. You only stopped using the program. This tactic catches many people who don't read the terms and conditions and/or don't pay attention to their monthly card statements. The best thing to do when you buy a new computer is to go thru and get rid of the many pre-loaded "bloatware" programs that come with it.

The anti virus ones are the first that should be uninstalled immediately without ever using it. There are many free anti virus programs out there, eg., Avast and thus, no reason to pay for them. The free ones work well for most home computer users. As a further note: never, ever use a debit card online.

They are much too dangerous.

Always use a credit card and always review your monthly statements. Use this as a learning experience.

A Scam or what???

I just bought a brand new Dell I3 laptop for my wife at Office Depot. Also purchased a promotional McAfee antivirus for $5.00. This was full protection for 1 year. When I entered my 25 digit code, it told me my code was good but my OS is corrupt. This is a brand new computer. I called customer service - they had to read from the sheet and told me that my OS was corrupt. They said they could fix it for a price. Really - a brand new computer? I was hesitant in purchasing McAfee and now it just confirms your product is junk. What is really interesting is that the computer came with a 30 day free trial which seems to be working fine. oh well......

Just as a reminder, there is no reason to pay for anti virus software generally. There are many free editions online that work well for the average home computer owner, eg., Avast and others.

As for McAfee being pre-loaded---I would uninstall, run the McAfee clean uninstall tool found online to make sure you get rid of all the junk it puts on your machine and then tends to leave even after an uninstall and find a free one online as I mentioned above. Going through and uninstalling the pre-loaded junk that comes with a new computer is the very first thing to do when you get it home.

Mcafee does not care about there customers

I been trying for over a week to get help with an issue that they have ( there issue not mine) which came in a update ( not fully tested) they can careless about anything they will make any excuse they can to hang up and they do repeatedly ( includes supervisors and managers) they seem to love the term "not cooperating" which is there excuse for refusing to help, they expect you to answer anything ( often multilple times) when they want and how they want but yet they will not answer any simple, valid question ( where there not cooperating excuses comes in if you make any issue on there not answering or helping) nothing is ever there fault rather odd how a supervisor or manager will claim that the treatment isn't acceptable ( hang ups and no help given etc.) but yet than proceed to do the exact same thing they don't seem to know anything besides what is in there scripts might as well be talking to the wall

McAfee withdrew $97 one week before the "free" trial was over!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
On January 30th, 2017, I authorized a 30 day free trial of McAfee AV software. As far as I could tell it either didn't do anything, or I never ran across a need for it. I did not intend to renew and be charged after the trial period. I was also told when signing up that I would be sent a reminder email before any charges were applied. On February 23rd I was charged $97 for a full year, which is outrageously expensive and more than their competitors, without any warning. This is obviously a scam and normal business procedure of this company because when I called their CS number there was actually an option for "refunds". The rep was very familiar with this type of complaint and well practiced at handling the situation. She offered a price drop to $62 which is more in line with other AV software but I wanted to drop it especially after being conned like this. It's still the 23rd as I write this so it's too soon to see how fast they refund my money. The point being they lied about the email warning (and yes, I checked my spam folder) and charged me 50% over their actual price. This is a deceitful company and I will never deal with them again.

Rude!!

My husband and I have had Mcfee on our laptops for a while, like maybe 4 years or so. We just tried to download the 2017 Total Protection Product Key and it was a mess. Called the "Need Assistance" service and the guy tried to help but told my husband our laptops have a virus. We still had the 2016 protection on the laptops, so Mcfee 2016 must not have be any good because we got a virus anyway. So much for there protection! The man he talked to in the "Need Assistance" department said he could fix the virus for a certain amount of money. When my husband told him no the guy said to my husband that, "You wasted my time" and hung up on him. We are now stuck with a Mcfee Product Key we can't even download. Our laptops always showed with the 2016 protection everything was ok but it must not have been so BEWARE OF MCFEE

Horrible product. I paid for a year subscription and tried to download it. The program would not download and I got an error code to contact Mcafee support. Mcafee support told me that I had spyware on my computer which was preventing the download. They told me that for an additional $299.00 they could clean up my computer and install their program. I told them to cancel my subscription immediately. I believe that the initial introductory offer was a scam just to get tech support money. I was able to download a Norton program without any problems at all.

Mcafee - Antivirus Review from Nashville, Tennessee

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I did a one time purchase online last year for my software. The past few weeks I've been getting emails saying my subscription was about to expire in March...well that was fine because the laptop I had the merchandise on was broken anyway so I don't use it anymore. Well this morning I get an email saying my automatic renewal has been processed and the amount would be charged to the card I had on file. #1, I didn't even know that my card info was saved on the website from my purchase last year, so that ticked me off. #2 just because I used my card for a ONE TIME purchase, my account automatically got enrolled into auto-renew WITHOUT me being aware of it or my permission. So when I called to get my refund they tell me that it's going to take up to 7-10 business days to give me my money back. That *** me off even more because I have bills that are still pending to come out of my account tonight so now it's going to put my account into a negative balance as well as a return fee for when the bills get declined. I am overly pissed with this company and I refuse to use any of their products ever again.

McAfee keeping 'renewal' fees for non-existent services

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
McAfee: I got a refund this month for my 'automatic renewal' of £59.99. In doing so, I was told by the company who could see my history that I had no product on the computer since March 2011. Yet in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 they have taken £54.99 and then £59.99 from my credit card. How can they do this knowing I have no proiduct? Why do they think thay can keep the money? If I am negligent in checking the debit card bill, they are more so for charging a non-existsent customer: no due diligence? Do they read this at McAfeee and just not care? I feel I am owed £265+ - which as septuagenerian I would like to have. Jack at jacklonergan@***.com

Maybe this will be helpful, If your virus protection company has you on auto renew you can and should log in to their main page on your account and uncheck the box for auto renew. Because it doesn't matter if you don't own that computer or you don't use them anymore once you allow them to charge you they will continue until you cancel or decline auto renew.

The bank will tell you you are responsible if you have this contract and wont stop payments.

Now if they are taking payment and you have stopped auto renew you can talk to your back and dispute it. Keep all correspondence dates and emails, names ext.

I tried Mcafee using their free trial period advertisement. In auditing my checking account, I found three $29.95 charges which were NOT authorized by me.

I always thought Mcafee to be an honest and reliable company. This just shows that there are few companies on the internet that you can trust.

Amount deducted twice without renewal

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Dear Team, The product details are as given below: Product: McAfee SecurityCenter via Dell Expired: 31/01/2015 Invoice: PS148914**** Invoice Date: 4/02/2015 E-mail: anirban_duttagupta@***.in On July 16, 2015, I tried renewing the above product through the pop-up that keeps appearing at every boot after expiry of the product. I tried renewing using my HDFC Bank Credit Card. But the renewal did not happen. I tried again. The renewal did not work out again. To my surprise, the next day when I checked my Credit Card Statement, I had been charged INR 1390.00/- twice for the renewal attempts and the description lines read: “MCAFEE *INTEL SECURITY 866-622-****”. I contacted McAfee and was told that the amount never got credited in their accounts and I should contact my bank. I contacted my bank and they said that the merchant (McAfee) has claimed the amount on both occasions. Certainly, one of you is wrong. I don’t care who that is. I don’t need information on McAfee products. I need my money back: 1390 + 1390 = 2780. It is extremely disgraceful that without actually renewing the product, you have deducted the money and are taking no step towards crediting the same. Today is July 20, 2015. Besides, how can you possibly charge twice for a renewal when a product PRACTICALLY CANNOT be renewed twice? I need a reply and my money. Thanks, Anirban Dutta Gupta e-Mail: anirban_duttagupta@***.in Phone: +91-9748****60
