Horrible Product *** Customer Service and Moronic Tech Support

These idiots don't even deserve to be in business. The product is a total memory hog, any of the freeware I've seen is thousands of times better than the *** they put on the market. I called their Indian Sub-Continent so-called "Customer Service" twice, the first time some barely understandable female transferred me to "Tech Support" and the brain dead *** I was transferred to was more interested in having me do a hard boot of my machine than telling me how to fix the situation. For your information Habib I have a DEGREE in Information Technology so treating me like I can't think or put a sentence together will only get you hung up on you condesending ***! My second call to the same horrible "Customer No-Service" line was, as I expected, a total waste of time. When I asked the rep for an agent here in the States he not only refused to connect me, he flat out told me that there was no one available to help me in the USA, however, he did offer to connect me with his "Supervisor" who is as I suspected only interested in up-selling you more *** software to fix the *** software they already put out. All I can say to that is fool me once, shame on you there will not be a second time. McAfee should be sued out of every dime they ever made from the fraudulent products they continually foist on the public. The only thing this product does well is hog memory. I have a degree in this stuff and still can't get rid of all the little shards of this program from my machine in order to use my own computer. Thirty minutes to load a browser homepage? Really? Then only to be told to reboot my machine? There is an old saying that says "When all else FAILS....Reboot" you don't start off with a hard reboot, you try to find what the problem is first. Rotten company, rotten product, rotten customer service and support.

No kidding! My pc has been blue screening.

Error reporting always said Mcshield.exe or McSvcHost.exe. They logged in remotely & uninstalled Mcafee, but in the process I think they corrupted some files. On reboot it did a chkdsk, so they transferred me to Techmaster, who insisted it was hardware, as Iexplore kept crashing. I thought it wasn't hardware, but they wouldn't listen, told me it had to be hardware.

I poked around & found acrobats software issue. Updated adobe & it ran better than ever.

I called back & asked to speak to level 2 tech. He talked me into reinstalling remotely. His technique was as haphazard he got hung up on windows update for 45 minutes!

Didn't need it anyhow, had just been done. This time they blamed it on my windows installation.

Without Mcafee the pc is 10 times faster, & I plan to keep it that way. Besides that, they also had an unauthorized charge a few years back!

You know, employee productivity would double if companies would just boycott F'N McAfee! How do corporate computer users accomplish anything when McAfee slows the computer to a crawl?!

Outrageous! Any CIO or IT Director who chooses McAfee is plain misinformed.

McAfee Total Family Protection software has messed up every pc we've set up

We set up and service pc's for a large office supply company after the sale and after virus repairs and every installation in the past two weeks of McAfee Family Protection has completely messed up each pc until we uninstalled it. It is an awful product and McAfee has not responded well, if at all, to fixing their problem. The fix they have posted on their website is totally inadequate and does not fix the issue until you uninstall the Family Protection module. The McAfee response to a serious issue is a joke. If you have any sense, don't purchase McAfee products or if you do, don't expect any support when you call them.

McAfee internet virus software blocked access

I had MCafee virus protection software. It scrambled my internet connection so I uninstalled it and asked for a refund. They laughed. I have a number of problems with this software. it slowed down my internet connection and, occasionally caused it stop or lose the signal. this last problem required that I hire a computer geek which cost me an additional $60. Mcafee' product is not worth the money and their customer service is inferior. You can use Microsoft Virus protection, downloadable for free. It will save you $60 and it will be compatible with your computer. Tell McAfee where to stick it. Which from my chat experience, must be in India.

I'm glad somebody posted something about McAfee. It is one of the biggest Internet frauds there is.

I meant to say that I download the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, from the Microsoft Website. It is a simple virus scanner that they update every month. Other than that, I don't run virus software, just the Windows firewall, set to medium security. That's all I need.

i rarely ever get a major virus. The scanning tools finds minor adware, and removes it every month. I've been using Windows for years, going back to Windows 3X.

I know when I have a virus, and I know how to get in there, and get rid of most stuff, manually. That helps.

#536970

I bought a subscription to McAfee virus protection a couple of years ago. They had an online, holiday special.

Prior to downloading the McAfee virus software, my old virus software was outdated, but I had never had a major virus on my computer. After downloading McAfee, I was dealing with a major virus every other day. It was almost like the McAfee software was running in the background, grabbing viruses off the Internet. I removed McAfee, reverting to the original, outdated virus software, and the problem went away.

McAfee was the problem. Fortunately, I removed McAfee in time to get a refund from them. The Microsoft virus protection is a memory hog, and I also had a higher instance of viruses using that. I got rid of Microsoft, too.

I download, and run their free virus/spyware scan every month. It works better than anything else.

McAfee tried to shake me down for money

I called customer service for McAfee AntiVirus Plus because I no longer had internet access on my laptop. After 30-40 minutes of remote access of my computer by the technician, she said my computer was infected and they would charge me $250 to remove it. I said that was ridiculous (after all, isn't that why I bought antivirus protection from McAfee?) When I told her I couldn't afford $250, she said, "How much could you afford?" I think that was very unprofessional and uncalled for. How low was she willing to go? I hate to think that those people have access to my credit card. I immediately removed McAfee from my computer, and just like that, I know have internet access again (and it didn't cost me $250!) I turned off the automatic renewal of my subscription to McAfee. Of course, it is there policy not to offer refunds.

So glad you didn't pay them and removed it!!! I'm infuriated on your behalf because the issue with McAfee updates resulting in no internet connection is a KNOWN ISSUE!

It's beyond bad customer service that McAfee didn't tell you this. Microsoft Security Essentials.

FREE. Download it.

I have spent the last several hours trying to resolve issues related to internet connectivity AND blocked firewall protection. I am exhausted but proud that I was able to get my laptop back to normal so long story short: McAfee, Cox Cable and Acer Computer, in my very initial opinion and once upon a time CONSPIRED and COLLUDED to what appears to be an ENORNMOUSLY scandalous, illegal, fraudulent, to name a few possible causes of action, scheme against consumers, etc.

It appears McAfee is hooked up with an array of cable companies and computer manufacturers (that seems to be the devils triangle McAfee pursues) to block anyone who decides not to purchase their product after trial period, from the Internet and firewall protection after numerous attempts using pop up windows (tonite these windows were popping 10 a every five minutes for hours) to convince the "consumer" to Buy their software program or else that comes pre-installed obviously through some deal/arrangement with the computer manufacturer. There is much more detail, i.e. manipulation/invasion of "consumer's" computer before your eyes in very real time and very really disturbing, certificate authenticity problems, Windows troubleshooter suggesting some kind of proxy problem and/or (every predator's claim-"it's not our fault, its yours/your computer)manipulating computer to appear as tho your wireless network adapter is not working. Well, indeed it wasn't.

Not at all. It was like participating in some macabre dance with faceless goons. Finally, I managed to uninstall McAfee entirely, but not before another pop up taking its last breath threatened that by me uninstalling "it" I would face certain consequences and I'll be sorry . .

. not in those words but very implied . . .

very real class action here, possible violations relating to preventing, through manipulation, consumers to access their right to the internet . . . egregious and punitive .

. .

This company misrepresented McAfee and didn't even fix my problem

I am computer illiterate and was having a problem with my NEW computer and thought it was a McAfee problem. I got on the internet to call for technical support and honestly just got lost in all the listings. I called pc24/7 or whatever their name is because they listed themselves as representing McAfee. Two days and $100 later the problem was not fixed. I called and complained and was refunded $30. I was informed the other $70 was payment for the services I received, even though the problem was never fixed. If I had paid by credit card I could have stopped payment, but I used my debit card. I called McAfee to complain and was informed that this other "company" was not affiliated in any way with McAfee and that if I had called them it would have been FREE. Make sure you know who you are calling. I will never make this mistake again. I don't believe in credit cards, but in this instance it would have made quite a difference. Let's bring the jobs back to the US people! It's not like we don't have qualified people here who can provide technical help. No matter who you call for technical support, you can't get this country! I'm done with all of this. If I can't figure it out, then I guess it won't get done. I'm furious. Due to my being naive, I am out $70 and many hours of wasted time trying to understand what this person was even saying.

Charged AGAIN for the 2nd time for a product I didn't order!!!!!

This is the 2nd time I have bee charged for software I DID NOT ORDER!!! I would like the amount of $198.90 refunded back into my account immediately please. I under no circumstances gave ANY authority to deduct a payment for something which I DID NOT ORDER! I am truly disgusted that a company like Mcafee could just STEAL money from peoples accounts. I have all correspondence relating to the request over 12 months ago to have this removed & I have even removed my account details from their files, but I have still been charged, which goes to prove they don't do as customers request & abuse their right to sell.

My encounter with them has been a nightmare. I truly think they infected my computer to get money.

I probably wont feel safe from them until I go back to factory condition. At least I have my computer back under my control and not theirs.

For 4 months now nothing but *** and more *** from Mcafee

I have been tring to install and register the Mcafee Internet Security 2012 antivirus, but seem that might be impossible. It has been 4 months since buying the above mentioned product and I have had nothing but grief. I cant even email the company to get support, my email address did not download properly so Mcafee is saying and I have given up with Mcafee. I'm going back to Norton 360 at least I never had any problems with them. I think that my fight has just begun after reading all the complaints from the other purchasers. Unprotected and Pissed off

I've used it on my desktop and laptops for two years with absolutely no problems.

I'm grateful someone told me about it as I had assumed I needed to pay for decent antivirus protection. Your welcome.

McAfee

I bought protection. I got a "Security Shield" virus on 8/1/12. I asked for help. I got an offer to pay more $ to fix the problem. I was told new viruses were not covered by my subscription. I used the free Windows Defender program on my computer and it eliminated the virus McAfee could not remove with its subscription service. McAfee stated that the Security Shield virus was new and not possible to defend against. I googled it and found it was an old virus. There are fix websites dating back to 3/2012. McAfee ripped us off.

I think I ran into that Security Shield virus or something similar on a friend's computer about two years ago. So I believe your story that it is an old virus. I also believe that your paid subscription service with McAfee should have caught the virus and should have blocked it.

You should file a complaint against McAfee, possibly with the Federal Trade Comission or the Better Business Bureau.

You were right to apply the Windows Defender solution. There can be cases where extra tools can help to solve a virus problem.

McAfee Total Protection Non-performance

My Windows 7 machine was recently infected with the "ZeroAccess" trojan. I have McAfee Total Protection installed on my machine. I have put up with Total Protection's pigginess (CPU hog which slows my machine) during scanning for several years in the hope it was protecting me from all of the nasty viruses, trojan and spyware we live with in today's environment of jerks and criminals on the internet. Well, the simple fact is McAfee Total Protection FAILED. It did not stop the infection. It did not perform the task I paid for. It is not worth the money and even more it did not do what it promised, exposing me to a rather insidious trojan. I have had McAfee on my machine for several years and it rarely finds anything. I am very cautious and do not go to web sites that usually cause problems. This time, when I needed McAfee, it FAILED miserably. I only got rid of the trojan by wiping my hard drive and reinstalling everything from backup which I can and did do myself. (Notice I am the type of user who is constantly backing my data.) When I called McAfee they didn't flinch about their software being incapable of dealing with "ZeroAccess". The person on the phone (after a 30 minute wait time) was obviously not qualified to do anything other than try to get me to contract through McAfee for an outside consultant to wipe my hard drive for a considerable extra fee.

MCAFEE FREE VIRUS OFFER IS DANGERIOUS

I bought a SAN Disk USB chip at WalMart and it offered FREE MCAFEE Virus Scan software. Downloaded it and in less than 30 minutes it started scanning and identified 32 Trojans / malware /security issues that other scanning software had never identified. It shut down all my browsers and denied any access to the Internet and I couldn't even access MY COMPUTER eventually. It denied me access to the task manager to disable it. It denied access to misconfig. The control panel and add/remove would not let me remove it and eventually I was denied access to it. There was no disable option and I could not open my firewall or Windows security..It was a TOTAL NIGHTMARE ....the computer just sent out a beeping sound. It seems THEY infected me and I could not get rid of them or disable.Only thing that worked eventually on my computer with INTERNET access was it's page to buy $50 to $100 plus for a registered version of their software and no way to contact them without dishing out the money otherwise. I was in sleepless with tears and resigned to pay till finally forced my PC after five restarts to restore point, it was not easy. THIS COMPANY IS DANGEROUS terrorizing entity that will identify any murder in your heart. The other offers on the San Disk USB were great.

Mcafee Anti-virus doesn't work company tried to make me pay $130 to fix virus!

Ok so today I got the FBI something pack ransomware virus/hijacker/trojan whatever it is. We have alreayd paid fro Mcafee anti-virus protection. The software did NOT do it's job, especially since it is set to real-time protection and scanning. The truth is I was able twice to temporarily bypass the hijacker/trojan whatever and get online to find out what it was and saw numerous posts from this year of mad Mcafee customers who's anti-virus software DID NOT detect the virus and did nothing to try to protect the computer. As usual the company took no responsibility for the failure of it's product and refused to fix it for free, and instead tried to scam me out of $130.00! No way should any person have to pay such exorbinent fees when the companies product fails at it's job. Mcafee of course tried to blame me, blame my computer, anything but blame themselves or their junk software. Mcafee you are responsible this is your fault, you owe customers free assistance when your program fails at it's job!!!!!! I update every single time it asks me too, sometimes automatically, i update constantly in fact it harassess me almost twice a day some days to update!!!!!!!!!!!! I refuse to ever subscribe to Mcafee's anti-virus software in the future. It's robbery, they can breech the contract and still ask for more money, I'd rather pay the ransomware scam people!!!! Here's the kicker, you ready? Nobody at Mcafee even bothered to tell that restoring the computer to an earlier time could remove the virus!!!!! I saw it on a chat forum. I set the restore to three days ago, everything started normally. This is the kind of scammy bull *** that *** me off the most!!! Nothing but a bunch of liars and theives. You call for help for a service you pay for because scummy scammers are hijacking your property and you have to call a bunch of legally operating scummy scummers "holding your pc at randsom" for $130!!!!!!!!!!!!! F U Mcafee!

Once you find the location of the virus, write it down exactly as it appears. Then, in Safe Mode, open My Computer.

In the Navigation window, atop the screen, type in the what you have written down, minus the name of the viral file, which will be the entry after the last backslash at the end of the line. Hit enter. when you get to that temp folder, look for the name of the file, and delete it. Remove it from recycle bin, too.

Reboot computer. Your problem should be solved

#536977

The FBI virus is a simple screen that activates when the user goes online. There is a simple fix.

The virus is located in a temp file. This bad file has to be removed by booting up the computer in the Safe Mode (Press and hold F8 Key after turning on computer). Boot computer in the Safe Mode without networking.

This virus will list itself, and its location in your startup menu, which makes it easy.

In Windows,Click Start, Run. In the box type "msconfig" then Enter. An application box will open on your screen. Click on the startup tab.

Scroll down, and you will see 2 entrys of "ctfmon". There should only be 1.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe is the legitimate one. The other is the location of the virus

#534293

CPU hog. Tech support blames my computer for the software's faults, they say its a virus.

MANY others on the McAfee forums have the same issue as me. This joke of company WILL NOT acknowledge any problems with their garbage program and place the blame on me....some tech support huh?

#527431

same happend to me, i think it was them that did it to scare me into renewing as it was in the last few hours, i scaned in safe mode and it removed 2 items after reboot the logo was gone but the computer would not fully boot up. i just restored back to factory condition and all works fine now.

funny thing is i went on same sites downloaded same files and it never came back, but i did renew subscription. It may not be them but it sure looks funny to me

#518871

Got a virus, took over a hour to talk to someone overseas who patched me thru to another half hour wait to talk to someone overseas, woh patched me thru for another wait, to someone overseas who could not help. That laptop is still down, and when I have awhole day to try again I'll give it another shot, recommend all not to purchase mcafee virus protection. Its a waste of your money. Save your money and time and invest in a virus software product other than mcafee.
