McAfee Crashes and blames it on Internet Explorer

Went to bed, computer is working perfectly. Wake up and I have no internet connection. Reboot computer and McAfee won't start, can't load it manually. Spend an hour on their website looking for a problem. They admit they did an update that disconnected internet connections that require uninstalling McAfee and reinstalling. Who has time for that. Then spent 30 minutes on a chat session with Muhammad (really) in customer support who didn't fix the problem and blamed it on a corrupt Internet Explorer that I don't even use. He said McAfee uses Internet Explorer to display itself. That right there is a great reason not to use McAfee.

McAfee Stealing Money

McAfee is stealing money from people. I just logged into my online banking to see an unauthorized charge on my account from McAfee in the amount of $49.99. Called the number and waited a really long time for someone who couldn't locate the charge on their end. Gave them my name card number and phone number and Zip code still couldn't locate. They advised me to call my bank and report the charge. I think they are hoping most people will miss the charge on their account and just let it slide. I've never used Mcafee and I've never owned a computer that used it. I did buy a Dell several years ago and recently two Asus laptops. I'm going to be seriously pissed if I was auto setup for Mcafee service by Dell.

I suspect the culprit lies with Dell and the fact that McAfee software was preloaded onto your new computer, you enabled it, gave them your credit card info, used it for whatever trial period there was, and failed to cancel it. They then started charging you for it.

Their computer automatically billed you but the info had not yet hit McAfee's customer service people's computer screen yet.

Dispute the bill with your credit card people. Also, when you get a new computer, immediately uninstall all crapola like McAfee, Norton, Adobe, etc. that they put on the machine. There are many totally free virus programs and PDF programs, etc.

available. You can also download and run a very small, and free program called "pc decrapifier". Do a search for it.

It will tell you what junk is on a new computer and how to get rid of it before it does any damage to your machine or your wallet. But, by all means, dispute the charge.

Excuse my cynicism, but there are so many complaints on many websites about McAfee renewing subscriptions without the subscribers permission, that I assume they will continue to steal money. They renewed my subscription of £51-53p on 9-11-12.I use Norton Internet...

Bought mcafee software that was so difficult to install and activate

I purchased a McAfee antivirus for my computer. It was almost impossible to install but when I finally managed it there was no way to activate it. The information stated to contact mcafee.com. but when I did there was still no information about how to activate the software. Eventually I contacted their online technical help who were worse than useless and didn't fix the problem. I also spent one and a half hours on the phone to some place in India, (mcafeesupport.guruaid.co.uk/). that said it was toll free (I so hope it was) that couldn't fix it but asked me for £74 in order to get level two service to fix it. They also tried to sell me a yearly service contract for my computer package for £399. I then in desperation took my laptop to my local computer 'fix it' place and it cost me £20 to finally get it activated. It took them about an hour. They told me that it was not my computer that was at fault but the software.

Took Money from bank I did not authorize

I dropped McAfee for a better Security Suite when my subscription was about to run out and I did not reply to the emails reminding me of this. The company took funds out of paypal and my bank to up my subscription. They said it was to "be sure my computer had protection" yea right. I did not authorize this money to be taken out. I had subscribed once a year ago but only allowed McAfee to remove money one time only. Needless to say I was on the phone in a heart beat to get the money back. The place even offered me to take $10 off If I would stay to which I said, no give me my money. Finally after an hour on the phone with them I got my refund back. Be careful with these guys and cancel any subscriptions as soon as you are through with their product or expect you money accounts to be a bit shy of the full amount

Neat NeatDesk 5.1x does not work with McAfee.

I've been using Neatdesk (and McAfee) for years. Recently I updated to the 5.1x, the latest version of the NeatDesk software. Mind you, I don't even USE the software - I scan everything to PDFs file because the software is so slow and kludgy - but I have to launch the software to use the scanner. It has stopped working and several calls to Support later, I learn than it no longer works with McAfee. So in order to scan documents, I have to disable virus protection! That's pretty bogus. I was told to call MCAFEE for help - but it's not their issue, it's Neat's. I can understand turning off virus protection during an install but not during regular use! I was also told I had to disable any backup software - again, I can understand this during install, but not during use. Neat needs to get their act together and fix this.

Charged me for a service I did not order.

I found a charge of $84.79 on my credit card this month. I persume its for renewal to Mcafee security. My Mcafee is due to expire in Dec. 2012. I did not renew it nor do I intend to. I am now with Zoominternet.net services and they provide free security with Trend. In May 22, 2012 I had a virsus. I took it to Staples and they cleaned it up and I also changed from AOL to Zoominternet.net Staples downloaded the Mcafee security to Zoominternet. I still had six months to go on the Mcafee security. Thank you

Mc Afee Software failed to work properly

I had McAfee complete virus protection software on my computers. We went to a website and before we knew it a virus attacked the computer. When we took it in to a service tech today to get fixed, he told us that McAfee had done updates a couple months ago and it screwed everything up including making one think they still had virus protection when in fact they did not. McAfee failed to notify their customers as to the security breach. We should all file a class action law suit demanding a refund plus the cost to fix our computers!

McAfee - DON'T BUY IT!!!

13 hours today trying to activate the McAfee antivirus purchased with a Dell computer. We were referred to dead end phone lines (with worn out music on hold tapes) and numbers where no one answered. It just went directly to music. The support personnel could barely speak English. Even Dell could not get it done. They are refunding our money. I don't have forty more words. 1 2 3 4 5 6 * * * *0 11 12 1* ** *5 16 17 1* ** *0 21 22 2* ** *5 26 ** ** ** ** There you go!!!

The U.S. Army is really shafting itself by using McAfee! It should use Vipre (a British product).

I had McAfee two years ago and, yes, it completely froze up my computer. I had to get rid of the McAfee anti-virus software and use another anti-virus software.

Have you thought of getting Malware Bytes Anti-Malware or Avast!? They are both free for one year and they are both excellent anti-virus software programs.

The same thing happened to me, by bank offered me this "free" subscription and I bought into this, but never used the product. I was charged $80 after one year even though I changed to a new billing address.

Their email mentions option to disable auto renewal, but there is none when I login. Thankfully, calling their customer support number 186* *** **** helped.

McAfee sets you up for auto renewal but makes it very hard to change or cancel it. This is a very lousy and bad business practice!

McFee fraudulant credit card charge...Beware

I bought McFee 1 yr subscription in April 2012, paid for extension of 6 months. Got an email on 9/22/12, that "subscription has been renewed and charged to the credit card given". When I contacted Mcfee, I was told that I have only 6 month subscription. After going back and forth, this is what I found out. When I tried to register the product after purchasing, they gave me an e mail ID, which I don't ever use. When I extended the subscription, it was on my personal e mail ID. This 6 month subscription is the only one they are looking at. Since the 6 month is expiring soon, they renewed it. The 1 yr subscription is not linked to 6 month one...What a mess. So if I didn't pay attention to my e mails, I just got charged &75. Not happy with Mcfee.

McAfee fraudulantly charged credit card

A charge for $21 & change at McAfee showed up on my daughters credit card statement. She did not buy anything from McAfee and has NEVER previously done business with them. She called McAfee; they not only could not find a record of the charge (so they say); her credit card number does not show up at McAfee (so they say); and they refused to help clear up the matter. Now how does a McAfee credit card purchase just SHOW UP on someone's statement if there is no record of it ON FILE with McAfee? They also don't have her name or address on file. Just how the ef does that happen? Judging from some complaints I've seen, this is a common practice with McAfee. But it is also FRAUD!

This happened to me too. Last month the charge was $21.72 and I disputed it with my credit union and they removed it.

I've never used McAfee and I don't even use this debit card to charge things like this cause there's hardly any money in this account.

Now one month later the charge showed up again. McAfee has no record of me.

MCCAFEE HACKING CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT!!

Mccafee charged my new credit card account before my subscription expires on 10-2-12 and charging my credit card account without permission. I cancelled the credit card account to purchase mccafee last year and yet they were able to charged my new credit card account.... how did that happen that they were able to do that without any permission from me???? additionally, to add to the insult, the scanning for virus method does not even work. and their subsidiary company GURUAID is a total farce!!! they cost me $300.00 for 2yrs subscription w/o my computer getting fixed!!!
