LOL - yeah, right... NOT!

If you GOOGLE the e-mail address - jeff_peterson@***.com - you will come up with numerous such scams allegedly from other famous companies. It's just a new version of the old 419 scams. It did not actually come from McAfee!

Unathorized charge!

I installed Mcafee about two years ago on my computer. Received email stating that they had expired credit card info on file, and there would be a lapse in coverage unless I gave them updated info. WRONG!!!!!Just looked at my bank account and I have a 100.00 charge from them. This has now overdrawn my account, and causing other transactions to not go through. Called Mcafee, all they can do is say they are sorry and blame Visa. I asked if it was Visa who got paid. They said no. I WILL NEVER use them again. As far as I am concerned, they are scammers who abuse customers checking account. Big Business taking advantage of the little person again.

This is exactly what happened to my husband and I!!!! Emails about the expired CC and the whole 9 yards!

Today I get an email receipt from Paypal saying over $85.00 had been paid to them.

I filed a dispute, and emailed McAfee about it. They are criminals as far as I'm concerned.

McAfee security breached - no satisfaction from company

My McAfee 3 license (although I only use 2)/1 yr plan was up for renewal so I checked my account for the expiration date. How surprised, and angry, I was to find that since last March a 3rd computer had been added - "Joe's computer" named "***", with the IP 72.224.11.45. The only breach in security in my year's worth of paid McAfee was their security! I called and explained to Irene that since I had paid for a year of McAfee and they were the only security on my computer that had been breached, I expected a free year of renewal for my wasted payment for the previous year. Her reply: "Oh no, that can't be done at this end". So, I asked for her supervisor. After being put on hold long enough for me to answer another call, conduct business, and return to hold, Francy, the supervisor, came on the line. Obviously there had been enough time for she and Irene to discuss the call. Still, I was asked to repeat the complaint. Francy's response: "someone in my family must be playing a joke on me, especially with the computer being named "***", and because no one except me, not even McAfee, could access my account without my password". She then continued to read me the account information because she had accessed my account on her computer!! Hello -I did not tell you my password so how could you even see the account you just assured me not even McAfee could access?! She also said there was no way to identify the owner of the 3rd computer - in her words, which "member of my family" it was. Oh really? My 2 computers with the same IP address. "Joe's computer" with a different IP address, and even I was able to search and obtain it's location.... But McAfee has no way to identify the hacker......McAfee/Francy's solution: I was sent the uninstall directions. That's it. No effort to reimburse me for the failed security, no offer of continuing my subscription with them at a reduced, or free year - which I still believe they owe me. No nothing - except "here's how to get McAfee off your computer. Have a nice day".An interesting addition - less than 24 hrs after this complaint and after insisting no one can access my (now expired) account, the "***" computer is still listed as my 3rd license but the IP and name have been changed!! It is now CASEY at IP 99.57.124.176. So, heads up, those of you out there with McAfee. My account is being uninstalled which means "Joe" and "CASEY" will be searching to *** someone else's account and get free coverage. Keep an eye on your account, since McAfee Internet security doesn't.

Unauthorized charge to my bank account

A charge showed up on my credit union bank account as MCAFEE / MCAFEE 866-622-**** TXUS. I have never done business with this company. This is an unauthorized charge for some product or other that I never ordered. I noticed it when I checked my bank account this morning. I intend to call my bank today to have it investigated and to call 866-622-**** to see what they can tell me about how they got access to my account information. This is very disturbing and a pain in the tail to have to deal with in the midst of an already busy day.

Multiple billings when already covered by services

1 McAfee has charged me multiple times for renewals and subscriptions on the same 2 computers. 2 I have confirmed I have these subscriptions via the MCAfee site. 3 I am not receiving these services despite the check system saying i have these services. I get alerts saying I am not covered and I should renew. Each time I check the McAfee system, McAfee rebills me for another subscription. 4 I am covered through 2016 on my service, yet Mcafee keeps billing me. 5 I do not intend to pay for these multiple billings and have alerted American Express 6 I have also notified the NYS Attorney Generals Consumer Fraud email hotline as to Mcafees business practices with the suggestion that he investigate the multiple charging for already purchased services.7 i used your chat line with some guy from India last week and he said he would fix it. Guess what, I just got charged another $149 for services I had already purchased.

Just takes money without permission

These *** (excuse my french) but there is no nice word to describe there criminal actions, McAfee just takes money from my account, without permission and authorization, which then over drafted my checking account, so I am stuck with the overdraft charges, looks like there many others with the same scam, this is stealing! I reported this issue with the AC3 which is the FBI's department of internet crime, I am very open to a class action lawsuit against this practice, I am loosing a good chunk of money, it is stealing which in mind is a federal crime!

Just looking over my visacard statement. Found a charge from these xxxxx.

Don't know how they got my card details. I don't have a Dell but have a HP PC. I'm always cautious about using my card on line.

So how and who did the details come from? Now getting my visacard bank to investigate.

Theft!

Like others on this site McAfee simply took money from my account with no authorization from me. My account was due to expire at the end of March but I had decided not to renew as my son had told me to use AVG and Comodo firewall (both free ). Therefore I did not send McAfee my new card details. However on February 17th (one month before the date of renewal) I discovered that they had taken £54.99 from my account. I have sent two emails to the company but as yet have had no reply. I would say give McAfee a wide berth!!

beware!!!! I made the mistake of buying the product with "automatic " renewal.

I purchased this using my Visa card. After my 1 year subscription expired I was sent an e-mail and a letter in the mail indicating that my Visa card had expired and they require me to update my information in order to " keep my computer protected" Well I decided at that time I no longer wanted this product therefore I did not update my information. They still billed my expired card!

apperantly they have N agreement with Visa that allows them to update it without my permission. Corporate trickery at its finest!!!!

I had a similar situation where I just purchased McAfee from an local office store and within a few days, not only were there virus' and pop ups from McAfee saying my computer is at risk, but, I was suppose to be protected from all of this. Now my computer is acting funny including it not logging in or out!

I have contacted customer service in another country and they want to charge me an additional $89.00.

Outrageous and poor business practices! Very disappointed!

#614488

I went through the same thing. It's a scam.

I called "customer service" where someone just answered the phone (no hold music or answering machine saying that this call may be recorded for quality insurance). He told me to do some button pushing and clicking and then said to push "accept". So I did. Then all of a sudden this guy is controlling my screen!

No warning. He took me to ammyy.com and then told me that he screwed up my Microsoft program because if conflicted with another security program on there. And I got mad because he is customer service, he should have known that before installing Mcaffee. So then he says he will have to charge me to fix it.

So I hung up all suspicious, and called the REAL Mcaffee people who took me through all Mcaffee websites and was very assuring that they were the real deal. It was scary. I had the Mcaffee guy look at my computer to make sure I didn't have any viruses and I didn't.

I acted quick enough after he scam to stop my computer for. Crashing (hopefully, I only went through the process yesterday).

McAfee Total Protection

I got a trojan horse from Java. I am supposed to have total protection from McAfee. When I called to inquire how to get rid of the virus, I was told that it would cost me $89.00 to fix it. I purchased "TOTAL PROTECTION"! I want my money back! BEWARE!!! Do not purchase McAfee Total Protection because it does not include "TOTAL PROTECTION!!!" Total protection should include monitoring of all sites, emails, programs, etc., etc. I was appalled when I was told that I had to pay an additional $89.00 to get rid of a virus that should have been covered by McAfee.

This also happend to me. McAfee wanted money to remove a virus.

A friend pointed me to some software that took care of the problem. McAfee just wants your money.

Have Total Protection, but will not renew. Does not work.

They tell you in the terms of service once you sign up they will charge you each year unless you cancel it. Read before you give some company your card number.

They count on people not reading and just hitting click click click.

It's up to you to read it. The only person to be mad at is yourself.

Mcafee is one of the top antiviruses. It will give complete protection to our systems.

Only negative is, it will make our system slow. I recommand you guys to use McAfee to protect all your personal details.

@PissedConsumer593433

Hi Rak, your obviously on their payroll then!

Yes you do have to disable Real Time Scanning and then your computer is still slow.

My account came up for renewal, I had disabled auto renewal, they took the money. I complained and asked them not to take money without specific instruction, they refunded the money, following day they took it again! I have now asked for it again, we will see....

I will be going elsewhere in the future.
